Johanngeorgenstadt subcamp
The Johanngeorgenstadt subcamp was set up as a subcamp of the Flossenbürg concentration camp in the Johanngeorgenstadt community . It was located in a later furniture factory building on Georgistraße in the city and existed from December 1, 1943 to April 16, 1945. For the numerous foreign prisoners who died in the camp and who worked in the armaments industry, an on the edge of the cemetery of Johanngeorgenstadt A memorial was erected and a memorial plaque was attached to the building of the former subcamp. The victims include a. 124 prisoners from the Soviet Union .
Camp commandant was initially Cornelius Schwanner , from January 1945 Gottfried Kolacevic, who also led the evacuation of the camp towards Schönheide , where many prisoners died.
