Uphusen concentration camp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Uphusen concentration camp in Bremen was a satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp . It existed from February 7, 1945 to April 4, 1945.

In 1944, the city of Bremen approached the SS with a request to set up a branch camp of the Obernheide ( Stuhr ) subcamp in Uphusen, not far from the Bremen city limits . The accommodation barracks were built on the premises of the Rodiek company on a side street off Uphuser Heerstraße , Bruchweg. The barracks were only ready for occupancy at the beginning of 1945, which is why the 100 to 200 Jewish prisoners could not be brought to Uphusen until February 7th. The exclusively female prisoners all came from Hungary . At the company they had to work in the production of concrete parts that were needed for makeshift apartments.

Other prisoners worked at the Diedrich Rohlfs company . The advancing front line caused the SS to evacuate the camp on April 4, 1945. The prisoners had to go to Uesen on foot . There they were evacuated together with the prisoners from the Obernheide camp . The SS brought them all to Verden , where they were loaded into freight wagons. After days of wandering around, the prisoners reached the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on April 8, 1945 .
