The small place Kaambooni (also written Kiamboni , Kiyambooni , Kaamba Kiyaambo , Kiyemboni , Chiamboni , Chiambone ) is located in the extreme south of Somalia on the Indian Ocean at the promontory Raas Kaambooni ( Raas Jumbo ), near the border with Kenya . About 328 people live in the area.

Small coral islands stretch along the coast, to the north the southernmost foothills of the Bajuni islands and to the south the small Lama Shaaqa . Kaambooni is in the Jubbada Hoose administrative region .

history

On January 8, 2007 , 24 people were killed in a bomb attack by the United States Air Force in Raas Kaambooni on the alleged whereabouts of Fazul Abdullah Muhammad , the alleged leader of al-Qaeda in East Africa. Fazul Abdullah Muhammad was not hit.

In October 2011, Kenyan troops captured the city while fighting the Al Shabaab militias.
