Kaas and Kappes

Kaas and Kappes is a Dutch-German children and youth theater festival. The organizers are the city of Duisburg and the Duisburg ReibeKuchenTheater . As part of the festival, the city of Duisburg also awards the Dutch-German authors' prize for children and youth theater endowed with € 7,500. The festival has been taking place in Duisburg since 1999.

history

The author competition was initially advertised in both the Netherlands and Germany . For the Netherlands it was the very first children's and youth playwright's prize. The jury is bilingual. The first jury in 1999 included the Dutch author Lutz van Dijk , the Duisburg theater maker Uwe Frisch , the ZDF children's program editor Jörg von den Steinen and the Dutch playwright Suzanne van Lohuizen . In the meantime, the participation of the senders has been expanded to 5 countries: Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium , Austria and Switzerland . The name of the theater award refers to the Dutch word for cheese ("Kaas") and the word for cabbage ("Kappes") which is common in the Lower Rhine region.

The 20th festival took place from February 21. - 25.02.2018 in Duisburg. 105 pieces were submitted. The prize of € 7,500 for the best piece was awarded in equal parts:

  • Helwig Arenz (D) for the piece "Caligula and the girl on the stairs".
  • Christina Kettering (D) for the piece "No songs"
  • Christian Schönfelder (D) for the piece "Bergkristall" (based on Adalbert Stifter).

Of the 102 texts from six countries, equal parts were awarded the prize money:

Winner of the 13th Dutch-German Children's and Youth Dramatist Award 2011

The 13th festival took place from February 24th to February 27th, 2011. 85 pieces were submitted. The following prizes were awarded:

  • 1st prize: Theo Fransz (NL) for the piece “Voor eeuwig en honderdmiljoen dagen” (For eternity and a hundred million days).
  • 2nd prize: Daniel Ableev and Christian Kellner (D) for the piece “d'Arquette”.
  • 3rd prizes: Charlotte Luise Fechner (D) for the piece "Schneeschuhhasen im Glas" / Daniela Dröscher (D) for the piece "As if I were paper"
