Cable crane

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A cable crane or rope crane consists of two masts or towers, the tips of which are connected to one or more supporting ropes. There is a movable trolley with winch on each suspension rope , on whose hoisting rope the load can be attached and raised or lowered. The trolley can be moved horizontally with a pull rope . Cable cranes are often used in locations where large spans and heights have to be covered. Spans of over 1000 meters with loads of 30 t are possible. In order to enlarge the catchment area, the masts themselves can be designed to be movable and / or pivotable. In contrast to cable car ropes, ropes of cable crane systems are exposed to higher loads due to the weight of the loads, the frequency of travel and the construction site dust.

When building dams , cable cranes are usually used to transport the concrete . Several systems running in parallel are often used, whereby the mast can often be moved on a rail opposite the machine house in order to be able to reach the entire construction site.

Cable cranes are used in quarries to remove the raw blocks that have been extracted. Alternatively, derrick cranes are also used.

In shipyards , the masts of the cable crane system are often designed as fixed portals with several parallel carrying cables running over the slipway .

Forestry cable crane base station in lattice mast design on trailer

In forestry , mobile rope cranes are used to move wood in impassable, steep terrain . The base station, which has a telescopic mast, tilting mast or a collapsible lattice mast, is either permanently mounted on a truck or on a trailer that is often self-propelled. It has the drive and the cable drums of the cable winch and work winch. The mast is anchored to several stable trees with wire ropes. The opposite station is designed without a mast. A trolley runs on the suspension cable stretched between the base and the opposite station, which can move up and down by means of a pulling cable and usually not only has a load hook for tree transport, but also an integrated remote-controlled cable winch to move away from the cable crane terrace Attach trees and be able to pull them before they are transported to the cable car route. Forest rope crane systems are more cost-effective to use than helicopters . Bending routes are also possible by means of deflections.
