In the maritime a designated cable (engl. Cable ) one tenth of a mile , and is 185.2 meters. Generally, e.g. B. seafaring tales If this unit is also called cable length (Engl. Cable length ). Historic measure of Encablure

The cable length, also referred to as encablure , was also used to determine short stretches of the sea, such as the dimensions of the harbor basin, harbor entrances or narrow straits and similar distances. The estimated distances were then given in cable lengths. Was in the French Navy
