Cabinet Savage

The Savage cabinet was formed in New Zealand on December 6, 1935 by Prime Minister Michael Joseph Savage of the New Zealand Labor Party and replaced the Forbes II cabinet . It remained in office until Savage's death on March 27, 1940, when it was replaced by the Fraser I cabinet . The Savage Cabinet was the first Labor Party government in New Zealand history .
Savage's previously opposition Labor Party won the elections on December 26-27. November 1935 won with 45.73 percent and was able to provide 53 of the 80 members of the House of Representatives . The previously ruling United Party of Prime Minister George William Forbes joined the Reform Party and got 33.48 percent, but only had 16 MPs. In the elections on 14./15. October 1938, the Labor Party was confirmed and came to 55.80 percent and another 53 members. The New Zealand National Party , which was formed in 1936 from the merger of the Reform Party and the United Party, reached 40.3 percent with its top candidate Adam Hamilton and now had 25 members of the House of Representatives.
After Savage's death, the previous Minister for Health, Education and the Navy, Peter Fraser , took over the post of Prime Minister on March 27, 1940 and formed his first cabinet on April 30, 1940.
