Forbes II cabinet
The Forbes II cabinet was formed in New Zealand on September 22, 1931 by Prime Minister George William Forbes of the United Party and replaced the Forbes I cabinet . The Forbes II cabinet was a coalition government between the United Party and the Reform Party of former Prime Minister Joseph Gordon Coates . It was in office until December 6, 1935, when it was replaced by the Savage cabinet .
Forbes had been Prime Minister since May 28, 1930. In the elections on 1/2. December 1931, Coates' Reform Party won 26.6 percent of the vote and 28 of the 80 seats in the House of Representatives . Forbes' United Party received 16.9 percent and 19 seats. In addition, the coalition was supported by four independent MPs, so that the coalition had a broad absolute majority with 51 of the 80 seats. The New Zealand Labor Party, with Harry Holland as the top candidate, won 34.27 percent and was represented with 24 seats.
The previously opposition Labor Party with its new top candidate Michael Joseph Savage won the elections on 26/27. November 1935 won with 45.73 percent and was able to provide 53 of the 80 members of the House of Representatives . The previously ruling United Party of Prime Minister George William Forbes joined the Reform Party and got 33.48 percent, but only had 16 MPs.
