Kadokawa Shoten ( Japanese 角 川 書店 ) is an imprint of the Japanese publisher Kadokawa , which is best known outside of Japan for the publication of manga .
history
Kadokawa Shoten was founded on November 10, 1945 as a publishing house by Gen'yoshi Kadokawa in Tokyo . At first they specialized primarily in Japanese literature, but from the early 1970s onwards they also published comics and produced films. Later, Kadokawa Shoten was involved in video games. In 2003 the company became the holding company KK Kadokawa Holdings ( 株式会社 角 川 ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス ) - renamed KK Kadokawa Group Holdings (Kadokawa GHD) in 2006 - and the publishing and sales division was spun off as KK Kadokawa Shoten. In 2007, the actual publishing business was also outsourced, so that only sales remained and the company was renamed KK Kadokawa Group Publishing . The publishing business was transferred to a company named KK Kadokawa Shoten for the third time .
In 2013, the parent company Kadokawa Group Holdings was renamed Kadokawa and on October 1, 2013, the eight publishers of the group, including Kadokawa Shoten, were dissolved as independent companies and continued as brands (imprints) of Kadokawa.

Kadokawa Shoten publishes several manga magazines . The Asuka , which among other things D · N · Angel and X 1999 appear, was one of the first manga magazines for girls, which is specialized not love stories, but above all to adventurous fantasy. Dragon Age and Shōnen Ace are aimed primarily at a male readership with comic series like Chrno Crusade and Neon Genesis Evangelion . The magazine Gundam Ace , which specializes in series from the Gundam series , which is very popular in Japan , achieved a circulation of over 200,000 copies per month in 2005 .

Kadokawa Media is a subsidiary of the company that publishes mainly in the Taiwanese / Chinese language area. Often, translations of the in-house Japanese titles and works are offered.
