Kaiba ( Jap. カイバ ) is an anime - television series in 2008. The series was awarded the Japan Media Arts Award 2008 award, which is awarded by the Japanese Ministry of Culture.

In the future it will be possible to save the memories on data carriers and thus at least partially escape death. The body dies, but the memories are not lost, they can be transferred to new bodies. But this soon creates a trade for memories and the theft of data. The rich live in a world above the clouds, where they live forever through the transmission of memories, while a chaotic and miserable world exists on the ground. People's bodies have become a commodity.

A man named Kaiba wakes up one day in an unfamiliar room, he has no memories. He only has a pendant with a photo of a woman in it. After Kaiba is attacked, he escapes into space and embarks on a journey to find his memories. He meets different people and their problems.

Production and publication

The series was produced by Studio Madhouse under the direction of Masaaki Yuasa . Masaaki Yuasa also wrote the script. The character design was created by Nobutaka Ito. The series was broadcast from April 10, 2008 to June 24, 2008 by WOWOW in Japan.

The music in the series was composed by Kiyoshi Yoshida. The opening title is Never , the closing song Carry me Away , both interpreted by Seira Kagami .
