Cain collective

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kainkollektiv (own spelling: kainkollektiv ) is an artist collective founded in Bochum that has been working on theatrical scores between theater, installation and performance in various collaborations since 2004. It primarily produces its own texts and scenarios. Since 2013 it has also created two German-Cameroonian co-productions with the Laboratoire de Théatre de Yaoundé (OTHNI).

The members of the collective work as directors, dramaturges, theater scholars, authors, musicians, dancers and performers. Working in international (co) productions is a central and important part of theater work. It is not so much international guest tours, but rather actual co-productions including own piece developments, i.e. long-term collaborations and stays in the countries mentioned, that form the basis of this work. Thus, in and with Poland, pieces about the “traces of West and East” and “the decay of European cities” in Krakow (FASADA, BURN OUT CITY) and the “legacy of the Ruhr Poles” in the Ruhr area (KORTLÄNDER SAGA), about “German / European colonial heritage” in Cameroon (FIN DE MACHINE, FIN DE MISSION) and on the “decline of the (textile) industry” in Croatia (NO LOGO OPERA).

At the same time, thematically corresponding work was carried out in the Ruhr area / NRW, For example, in the Ruhr Ringlokschuppen the production 54th STADT - IN WESTEN NEWES (2014) or in the Schauspielhaus Bochum THE CHILDREN OF OPEL (2014). In all of these works, the Kainkollektiv is concerned with the interrelationship of specific local conditions in the cities in which the artists of the collective live and work, with the question of global conditions that increasingly influence these conditions. In the context of this search movement, the performance series GLOBE OPERAS , invented by the Kainkollektivisten, was created: a "documentary, (musical) theatrical evening series for the globalized world, shortly before night falls on it."

Awards

For its theater work, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, the kainkollektiv has been awarded the top funding for Theater NRW (1st round 2012–2015, 2nd round 2015–2018) from the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition, for the years 2015–2017 it received conceptual funding from the Performing Arts Fund and was awarded the George Tabori Young Talent Award in 2015.
