Lungerersee with part of Bürglen

Kaiserstuhl-Bürglen is a double place consisting of the hamlet Bürglen and the place Kaiserstuhl . Both belong to the municipality of Lungern in the Swiss canton of Obwalden and formerly formed one of the three districts of the municipality.

Bürglen

Bürglen is 692  m above sea level. M. at the north-western end of the Lungerersee . The hamlet has a chapel, a former schoolhouse, a seaside resort and several jetties. It can be reached from Kaiserstuhl via the road on the dam of the lake. On the street is the former turbine house of the Kaiserstuhl power plant, in which the fishermen of the Lungerersee have been operating a fishing business since 2014.

Kaiserstuhl

Kaiserstuhl is 698  m above sea level. M. at the northeast end of the Lungerersee. The place consists of the Brünigbahn stop of the Zentralbahn , a hotel-restaurant and about a dozen houses. The Brünigbahn connects Lucerne and Interlaken . The A8 road runs right through Kaiserstuhl . For day trippers the place is a stopover on the journey over the Brünig Pass or a starting point for hikes.

There are plans for a Kaiserstuhl tunnel on the A8 motorway, a 1 km long road tunnel that would lead from the south portal of the Giswil bypass tunnel to the north portal of the Lungern bypass tunnel and, on the one hand, relieve Kaiserstuhl of through traffic and, on the other hand, relieve the tight bends in the north of the village on the slope of the Kaiserstuhl would bypass.
