Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon

The Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon is a seven-day, approximately 250 km race that takes place in the South African part of the Kalahari desert , near the Augrabies waterfalls . The route leads through the Augrabies Falls National Park , various private game parks such as Khamkirri, Thorntree and Dabaras, as well as private farmland. The contrasting environment, with temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius during the day and less than 5 degrees Celsius at night, represents an enormous challenge for the athletes.

Known as the "Big Daddy" of South African races, the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon is a prestigious event with an international reputation.

Although the event is advertised as a 250 km run, the length of the route is determined differently every year depending on the terrain. It leads on the historical footsteps of the Bushmen , through the vineyards in the valley of the Orange River , over rocky terrain and the Kalahari desert. The participants only find out the exact route one day before the race.

Specialty

The Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon is a qualifying race for the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc .
