Kalamatianos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kalamatianos is a rural Greek folk dance that is common in variations throughout most of Greece. The term Kalamatianos is incorrectly used (also in many books) for Syrtos . The name "Kalamatianos" comes from a dance song with the text "και αν πας στην Καλαμάτα και έρθεις με το καλό φέρε μου ένα μαντήλι and give me a scarf from Kalamata and when you come back to Kalamata Information about the origin of this special dance song, namely Kalamata in the Peloponnese. The name of the Greek dance Syrtos gives an indication of the character of the dance Syrtos (from syre - to grind, to pull). It is written in 7/8 time with the dance motif (στα δύο, German "on two") long, short, short in a ratio of 3: 2: 2 (επτάσημος). The sequence of steps consists of 12 steps with four times three units. It is danced to four bars and matches the musical phrase.

The simplest rhythm consists of a dotted quarter note (long), followed by two eighth notes (short, short). While the rhythm of the two short parts is very seldom varied, the long part also includes: quarter + eighth, dotted eighth + sixteenth + eighth and dotted eighth + three sixteenth.

Examples from the country of origin Greece are: Μήλο μου κόκκινο (Greek Macedonian) Άσπρα μου περιστέρια and many more
