Life

Friedrich-Eckart Vahle was born in Stendal in 1942 as the child of artistically active parents, the painter Fritz Vahle and the graphic artist Ingeborg Vahle-Giessler , he learned to play the piano from his grandfather . He and his family moved to West Germany in 1956, where he studied German and politics after graduating from high school. In 1968 he recorded his first LP with songs in the duo Ulli and Fredrik with Ulrich Freise . After graduating from university, he did a doctorate in sociolinguistics and pursued his interest in children's songs in a habilitation on children's language and children's songs .

Nursery rhymes

Together with Christiane Knauf, he wrote his first children's songs while working with a group of children with learning disabilities . Christiane & Fredrik performed regularly in kindergartens, bookstores and children's song festivals at home and abroad and in 1973 released their first children's record with Die Rübe . The release of various other MCs and CDs followed. After traveling through Central America in the 1980s, he also wrote children's books that tell about the life of children in these countries, such as Manuel and I tell about Pedro .

His main occupation, however, remained his own children's songs, which he recorded and performed in collaboration with Dietlind Grabe-Bolz as a singing partner.

Fredrik Vahle's early children's songs from the 1970s took up topics that were still taboo for children at the time, such as work and unemployment, school, upbringing, sexuality and the lives of foreign residents. The newer titles mainly deal with the joy of music, language and movement.

His best-known songs include Anne Coffeepot , The Cat's Paw Dance , The Sparrow , The Augustin Hare , The Fox , The Hau-Mich-Not-Song , The Cowboy Jim from Texas and The Peace Painter . With the title Kawuras, der Krebs , he produced the most successful song based on a Kalamatianos rhythm in Germany to date . Long before the cat's paw dance was publicly criticized for the fact that the protagonist in the text marginalized other animals on the basis of physical characteristics, Vahle recorded a version for all newer (re) publications in which the cat, after initial rejection, reconsiders and with each of the animals dances, not just with the hangover. In addition, he wrote nonsense songs and playful verses and bilingual songs for the integration of foreigners ( The Elephant - Songs in our and in your language , 1981).

In recent years, the new movement songs and workshops on language and movement have taken up a large part of his work, including his teaching at the University of Giessen.
