Kalbarri is a coastal town in Western Australia , about 592 km north of Perth at the mouth of the Murchison River . The place lives mainly from tourism and borders directly on the national park of the same name .
Kalbarri has been permanently settled since 1951, before simple fishermen's huts stood at the mouth of the Murchison River . The first 12 streets were named after the explorer George Gray and his crew, who were shipwrecked off the coast in 1839.
