Kali Arulpragasam

Kali Arulpragasam (* 1974 in Clapham (London) , England ) is a British jewelry designer and artist .

Life

Arulpragasam's parents are Tamils from Sri Lanka who returned there when Kali was two years old. She attended schools in Sri Lanka and India . In the mid-1980s, the family fled to Great Britain because of the civil war in Sri Lanka . There Kali continued her education at London's Kingston College and West Thames College and graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London in 1997 . She then worked for various advertising firms in London, New York City and Los Angeles before returning to London in 2006.

Arulpragasam works in her own studio in the East End of London, which is also the headquarters of her own jewelry company, Super Fertile . One of the last series of different pieces of jewelry is called Murder and is supposed to be reminiscent of gunshot wounds and knife wounds. With this, the artist wants to remember victims of torture in Sri Lanka and worldwide.

Arulpragasam's younger sister is Mathangi Arulpragasam , who is best known as a political pop singer and MIA actress .
