The mountain village of Kallirachi ( Greek Καλληράχη ( f. Sg. )) Is located on the west coast of the island of Thasos at 145 to 220 m above sea level. the sea, on the western slope of the Metamorphosis mountain . Together with the coastal town of Skala Kallirachis (Σκάλα Καλλιράχης) located 2.5 km to the west, it forms the municipality of the same name. According to tradition, the grave of the heretic Sabellius, banished to the island, is located on a hill above the village .
The village existed at the beginning of the 16th century during the pirate raids under the name Kakirachi (Κακηράχη) as a place of refuge in the steep summit area of the Metamorphosis mountain and was re-established at its current location after looting and destruction.
Today's place is in the center of a former mining and smelting area , which was of great importance for the extraction of lead, silver and copper on the island of Thasos from antiquity to the Byzantine era. It is believed that gold was also mined in small quantities at the Metamorphosis.
Today the population lives from tourism and agriculture, especially from the extensive olive trees.
