Kalpetta ( Malayalam : കല്പറ്റ Kalpaṯṯa [ ˈkalpətːa ]) is a city in the southern Indian state of Kerala .

It is located in the mountains in northern Kerala at an altitude of 780 meters on the other side of the main chain of the Western Ghats . Kalpetta is the administrative seat of the Wayanad District . The population was around 31,000 in the 2011 census. The national highway NH 212 runs through Kalpetta from Kozhikode to Mysore . The city is a traffic junction through which the tourist destinations in the area can be reached, and a transshipment point for the agricultural products of the plantations in the area.
