Location of Kambsdalur in the Faroe Islands

Kambsdalur or á Ytra Dali is the youngest town in the Faroe Islands and is located on the east coast of Eysturoy .

The valley takes its name from Mount Kambur. The land was bought in 1981 by the municipality of Fuglafjørður . The first residents moved here on October 5, 1985. On January 1, 2005, 41 single-family houses with 170 inhabitants were counted.

Kambsdalur has developed into a service center in a very short time. Here you will find a sports center, a wood shop, many workshops and, above all, the regional school center. The school center was opened in 1990 and includes a high school as well as a commercial school . 25 teachers teach about 160 students here.

Kambsdalur enjoys a very high number of employees and is conveniently located between the relatively large neighboring towns of Fuglafjørður, Gøta , Leirvík , Runavík and, last but not least, the North Island metropolis of Klaksvík .

The bus to Fuglafjørður runs ten times a day. In Kambsdalur there is a scout home where groups can stay overnight. A moderately difficult hiking trail leads 3.5 km over the mountain to Skálafjørður .
