Shisuikai

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Shisuikai ( Japanese 志 帥 会 ) is a faction within the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). It has been chaired by Toshihiro Nikai since 2012 and is therefore usually referred to as the Nikai faction ( 二階 派 Nikai-ha ).

The Shisuikai was founded in March 1999 as a merger of the former faction of Michio Watanabe , the Seisaku Kagaku Kenkyūjo , with the Kamei group of Shizuka Kamei , a split from the Seiwa Seisaku Kenkyūkai . In the dispute over the post-privatization initiated by Prime Minister Jun'ichirō Koizumi , the Shisuikai lost some members who opposed the privatization, including the then faction chairman Shizuka Kamei.

In November 2009 - a few months after the LDP lost power as a result of the 2009 general election  - the MPs of the Nikai group ("New Wave") joined the Shisuikai.
