Atarashii Nami

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Atarashii Nami ( Japanese 新 し い 波 , dt. "New Wave") was a faction within the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) chaired by Toshihiro Nikai until 2009 . It is also known as the Nikai group ( 二階 グ ル ー プ , Nikai Gurūpu , from English Nikai Group ) or Nikai faction ( 二階 派 , Nikai-ha ). She was one of the smaller factions of the LDP.

The Atarashii Nami came into being in 2003 after the New Conservative Party disbanded and its members returned to the LDP. When it was founded, the faction initially only consisted of four former members of the New Conservatives in the lower house and six upper house members. It was able to record significant gains in the 2005 general election . However, fewer than half of their 13 MPs were directly elected. In the election defeat of the LDP in the general election in 2009 , the Nikai faction fell back to one seat, in the upper house it still had two members. In November 2009 the members joined the Shisuikai (Ibuki faction).
