The Kamei ( Japanese 亀 井 氏 , Kamei-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ), which were derived from the Uda-Genji . With an income of 43,000 Koku , the Kamei who last resided in Tsuwano were among the larger Tozama daimyos of the Edo period .

genealogy

The Kamei settled in the province of Izumo and served the Amago .

  • Korenori ( 茲 矩 ; 1567-1612) fell out with the Amago, left Izumo, went to Kyoto and joined Oda Nobunaga and then Toyotomi Hideyoshi . Hideyoshi gave him Shikano ( Inaba ) with 13,000 koku. He took part in the Kyushu campaign .
  • Masanori ( 政 矩 ; 1590-1619), a son of Korenori, was transferred to Tsuwano ( Iwami ) in 1617 , where he and his descendants resided until 1868.

The princes of Tsuwano built a Han school under the name Yōrōkan ( 養老 館 ) for the education of the samurai . The doctor Mori Ōgai and the philosopher Nishi Amane received their first training there.
