Chamber ball polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kammerball-Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 230). The work was performed for the first time on January 11, 1860 in the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The polka was composed for the chamber ball at Mardi Gras in 1860 and premiered at this event in the Hofburg. This explains the title name. In the further course of the carnival season there were performances in the Sofienbad-Saal (February 13th), in the dance hall Zum Sperl (February 20th) and in the Vienna Volksgarten (February 26th). Later it was somewhat forgotten and was rarely performed, if at all. This was also due to the fact that the composer's many compositions sometimes displaced each other from the concert schedule. There was simply an oversupply of such works. In 1939 Antal Doráti used motifs from the polka in his ballet Graduation Ball , which was composed according to motifs by Johann Strauss (son) .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 32 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
