Drollery polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The drollery polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 231). The work was performed for the first time either in the summer of 1859 in Pavlovsk in Russia or in Mardi Gras in Vienna in 1860.

Remarks

The genesis of this polka is a mystery. The work was presented in Vienna during the carnival of 1860 without prior notice. It was probably composed there the previous summer during the composer's trip to Russia. However, this cannot be precisely proven. Even the title name can no longer be justified precisely.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 13 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
