The Erfurt Chamber Music Association is a music association in Erfurt that was re-established in 2009 and is primarily dedicated to classical chamber music. It takes up the tradition of the former Erfurt Chamber Music Association , which was founded in 1946 by the flautist Kurt Kunert and which lost its independence during the GDR era in 1976.

history

The association under Kurt Kunert 1946–1990

It was founded immediately after the end of the war by the Erfurt flautist and composer Kurt Kunert, who had just been released from captivity . By organizing regular concerts in the field of classical chamber music and numerous world premieres and premieres of contemporary works, the association quickly became known nationwide. The matinee concerts in the Erfurt Angermuseum, which take place every two weeks on Sundays at 11:00 a.m., were particularly popular . With the replacement of the BGB by the civil code of the GDR in 1976, associations were abolished as autonomous and independent legal entities. As a private person, however, Kunert was able to continue to organize his concerts with the support of the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR and the City of Erfurt.

This tradition was later continued both by the Musica rara quintet, founded in 1981, especially in the field of chamber music with woodwinds and the performance of rarely performed works, as well as by various ensembles of musicians from the Erfurt theater . After 1990 the ballroom of the Erfurt town hall was also used for this purpose .

Established in 2009

On December 6th, 2009, with a founding concert in the town hall festival hall, a legally competent and non-profit chamber music association in Erfurt was re-established, which in its statutes expressly acknowledges the acceptance and contemporary continuation of the tradition of the association founded in 1946. Members of the founding board included a. Eugen Mantu and Claudia Schwarze . The new association has set itself the goal of holding traditional matinee concerts in cooperation with the theater as well as evening concerts with internationally known ensembles, opening up new audiences and performance venues and carrying out innovative projects with artists from other musical genres and genres.
