Eugen Mantu (born December 4, 1961 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian cellist who has lived in Germany since 1986 .

Life

He grew up in Bucharest and began playing the violin when he was six and the cello when he was eight . He later studied at the “Ciprian Porumbescu” Conservatory in Bucharest with Jacob Aron , completed masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma , Laszlo Mezö , Erki Rautio and Tobias Kühne and was a winner of national competitions.

Since 1986 he has been the principal cellist of the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra . He also made several concert tours at home and abroad, including in 1999 through Catalonia to places associated with Pablo Casals . In 2009, together with Claudia Schwarze and others, he was involved in the re-establishment of the Erfurt Chamber Music Association and was elected chairman.
