List of breeds of cats |
The Kanaani cat is a relatively new breed of cats. It originated in Israel in the 1990s through a hybridization of animals of the native black cat ( Felis silvestris lybica ) with domesticated house cats . The Kanaani cat breed, which has been recognized since 2000, was created by crossing cat breeds such as Oriental Shorthair , Abyssinian and Bengal cats . The German-Israeli artist Doris Pollatschek is considered to be the founder .
Appearance
Their appearance is ideally similar to that of the spotted black cat. It has a black or brown spotted, beige to cinnamon-colored fur. Your hair is ticked. The animals wear three black rings on their tails, the soles of their feet and lips are black and their nostrils are red.
Your physique is slim and your muscles are strong. It has long legs and a long, pointed tail.
Breed standards and breeding

---|---|---|
body part | feature | description |
head | shape | On a slender, relatively long neck, forming a broad triangle, with large, wide ears. The skull between the ears is flat. The cheekbones are visible (no pinch). Under no circumstances should the head form an acute triangle. |
nose | The slightly arched forehead gently merges into a pronounced straight nose, no stop; not even in the least. Having an excellent profile is important. | |
chin | The chin should be strong. | |
snout | The muzzle is slightly flattened. | |
Ears | shape | Large, set ears. The space between the ears must be at least the width of the lower ear. The ears are large, pointed, open, transparent and slightly hairy on the inside. Ear brushes are welcome. |
location | Clearly standing apart, attentively erect | |
eyes | shape | The eyes are set wide apart, slightly slanted to the ears, almond-shaped, but not oriental. They are big and open. |
colour | The eye color in adults is green; Gooseberry or apple green are preferred, yellow green is possible. | |
tail | shape | A very long, thin tail, somewhat stronger at the base and tapering to a point. |
body | anatomy | A tall, always slender cat, with a very muscular, slender body on tall, slender legs. The hindquarters are slightly higher. The paws are slim and oval shaped. The neck and shoulders are more muscular in a hangover than in a cat. |
hide | structure | The coat is short, close-fitting and with little undercoat. The structure is rather coarse and not Siamese soft. The hair is long enough to show a clear ticking in both the basic color and the drawing. The ticking is essential, but not so pronounced that the spots disappear. |
colour | On a beige to cinnamon-colored background, dots in the colors seal (black), chocolate (chocolate brown) or cinnamon (cinnamon-colored), which can be softer due to the ticking. Regardless of the color of the drawing, the tip of the tail and at least 3 rings as well as the ball of the foot and sole strips are preferably black (as with the Felis Lybica). The genetic color can be seen on the tip of the tail. | |
Muster | The spots are in a horizontal or diagonal row, vertical rows over the whole body are not allowed. The legs are spotted or curled. Two to three neck rings, one of which should be open. The characteristic "M" on the forehead is ideally continued in three to five lines that run over the entire skull and neck down to the shoulder. On the shoulders, these lines can continue and turn into circular patterns with a dot in the middle. The eel line should be dissolved in spots. The belly is white to light beige and spotted, the chin and throat light beige. The nasal mirror is brick red and outlined in the drawing color. |
breeding
The breeding of the Kanaani cat is currently very little widespread (five Kanaani kennels in German-speaking countries, one kennel in the USA). Nevertheless, the Kanaani was recognized as an independent cat breed by the World Cat Federation in August 2000 .
The following colors are recognized in the Kanaani cat:
- seal-spotted tabby - black soles and tail rings
- chocolate-spotted tabby - chocolate-colored soles and tail rings
- cinnamon-spotted tabby - brick-red soles and cinnamon-colored tail rings
In addition to the breeding standard, classic or blotched tabby (flowering) patterns are permitted. Silver-colored variants are not desirable in breeding. The following crossings were allowed in the Kanaani cat until 2005: Kanaani, spotted variants of Felis lybica , spotted Bengal cats and spotted oriental shorthair cats. As of 2010, Kanaani cats are only allowed to have Kanaani parents.
