Kankurang Center and Museum

The Kankurang Center and Museum in Janjanbureh in eastern Gambia focuses on the Kankurang mask dance , which was included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005. The mask dance is an initiation ritual in the West African region of Senegambia ; the entry was submitted jointly by the states of Gambia and Senegal as an intangible cultural heritage .

The museum has been planned since at least 2009 and was founded in 2016 and opened in October.
