Edge banding machine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An edge banding machine glues edge material such as solid wood edge, strong veneer edges, veneer edges or PVC edges to the edges of panel materials. Edges are available in thicknesses from 0.3 mm to 4 mm. Presence or lipping are 4 mm, and more.

Structure and way of working

An edge banding machine consists of several elements.

  • All units are built into the basic machine or the housing.
  • The bridge is to be adjusted depending on the thickness of the panel material to be processed.
  • The conveyor belt is built into the bridge and housing and prevents the materials to be processed from slipping during processing. In the lower part it consists of a motor-driven conveyor chain and in the upper part of pressure rollers, with newer models sometimes also from a belt belt.

Aggregates

Most of the units are designed twice for machining on both sides.

  • The edge feed ensures that the edges or solid wood edging are advanced until they meet the board. The more modern variant is the multi-edge feed, in which many continuous edges are clamped and the corresponding one is brought forward as required.
  • The glue station melts the cartridge or granulate and applies the EVA glue , which is available in different colors . For waterproof bonding, hot-melt adhesives based on polyurethane are used . There are now alternative systems with hot air or laser, whereby a functional layer is melted onto precoated edges. However, this technique requires special edging material.
  • The guillotine shears cut the continuous edge as it is drawn in.
  • The trimming unit cuts off the protruding ends of the edge exactly again and usually consists of one unit each for the front and the rear.
  • The flush milling cutter mills the edge flat on the top and bottom.
  • The profile milling unit profiles the edge with two milling units. The profile knives can be adjusted or exchanged depending on use.
  • The profile scraper unit processes the previously milled edge. This unit is only switched on for plastic edging; the two scrapers scrape off a thin layer of the milled profile so that an even surface is created. There are now interchangeable devices for several different profiles or for processing sensitive materials including protective film.
  • The corner rounding unit profiles the edge on the front and back.
  • The surface scraper is only used with coated panels. Both blades sit on the surface of the plate and remove protruding glue and edge residues.
  • The buffing buff polishes the plastic edge again with two felt disks.
  • The sanding unit can re- sand the edge.
  • The spray system applies the release agent, cleaning agent and protective agent.
  • The grooving unit mills a groove in the workpiece. This can be done on the edge side or in the workpiece surface.
