The cantonal passport office ( French Bureau cantonal des passeports , Italian Ufficio cantonale dei passaporti , Rhaeto-Romanic centers da registraziun ) is the authority from which Swiss citizens in the respective canton of residence have been able to apply for a passport or identity card (IDK) since March 1, 2010 . A prior appointment reservation is required by phone or online counter.

With the introduction of the new Passport 10 on March 1, 2010, the application process for passports and identity cards has also changed. In some cantons, the identification documents cannot be applied for in the municipality of residence as before.
