The canton library Baselland (KBL) in Liestal is a library in the canton of Basel-Landschaft . In addition to the book rental, the building is used for educational exhibitions and events.

history

Five years after the founding of the canton of Basel-Landschaft, the canton library was opened in 1838 . It was created by politicians to improve education and promote the documentation of local history. She was given several bibliophile works dating back to the 16th century. The canton library developed only slowly and in 1938 had a range of around thirty thousand volumes. With the opening of the open access library in 1984, the offer was updated and made available to a wider public. After the offer was expanded to include digital media and the introduction on Sundays, usage increased. Because of this, she moved from the premises of the courthouse on Poststrasse near the train station to a former wine warehouse on Emma-Herwegh-Platz next to Bahnhofplatz. On June 1, 2005 the new canton library was opened. Today it has around a thousand visitors a day.

Duration

The cantonal library has eighty thousand media of divergent nature for different target groups. It offers electronic media for download. In addition, there are two hundred thousand volumes in their magazines .

As a study and educational library, the canton library complements the book and media offerings of the school and community libraries in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. It collects and communicates text, audio and visual material about the Basel region and from Basel-based authors.

use
