Secretary

Office secretary or office secretary , sometimes simply called secretary or secretarius , was a title for an official in the administration of justice . The term developed from the historical meaning of chancellery as the place where public documents and rescripts of the sovereign were made.

According to the German legal dictionary , the - sworn - office secretary or office secretary was an active in a high position, "often coming from the ranks of the office clerk with managerial tasks in the preparation of documents, keeping minutes, keeping seals and other office work". Often referred to only as a secretary, he was singled out in his position as the first or highest of several secretaries.

In the 18th century, for example, Johann Andreas Schernhagen , a pen pal of the experimental physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg , wore the title of secret secretary .
