Cape Bowles is the southern cape of Clarence Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It marks the east side of Thunder Bay .
The British navigator Edward Bransfield named the cape in 1820 during his voyage with the Brigg Williams in the waters around the South Shetland Islands. It is named after the British Admiral William Bowles (1780–1869), from 1816 to 1820 commander in chief of Pacific Station .
