The Promontory Point is (English: the southernmost point of a mountainous peninsula promontory ) running north into the Great Salt Lake in the US state of Utah projects.

The Union Pacific Railroad runs at Cape Promontory Point, which bypasses the section through the mountains via a dam through the salt lake ( Lucin Cutoff ).

In the 19th century, a place about 50 km north of the cape was referred to as Promontory Point or Promontory Summit, where the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad met on May 10, 1869 to form the first transcontinental railroad connection . This historic location is now designated as the Golden Spike National Historic Site .
