Niculae Micu
Niculae Micu (* 1933 ; † April 14, 2010 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian diplomat .
biography
After school education and studies, he entered the diplomatic service in 1959 and initially worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministerul al Afacerilor Externe). In 1966 he was appointed to a senior position at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City . Between 1971 and 1974 Micu worked for the UN as an international employee. After his return he was appointed ambassador and worked in Europe in the following years .
After the collapse of communism in the course of the Romanian Revolution and the overthrow of dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu in 1989, he remained in the service of the Foreign Ministry and then from 1990 to 1992 head of the OSCE and UN Department in the Foreign Ministry. In this function he also had a decisive influence on the establishment of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation on June 25, 1992. Subsequently, he was Consul General in Strasbourg from 1992 to 1994 and most recently between 1994 and 1995 as the first permanent representative of Romania to the Council of Europe .
