Cape Vahsel is a cape on the Luitpold coast of the East Antarctic Coatsland .
Participants in the Second German Antarctic Expedition (1911–1912) under Wilhelm Filchner discovered and mapped it. Filchner named it after Richard Vahsel (1868–1912), captain of the expedition ship Deutschland , who died on August 8, 1912 during the expedition during the ice drift through the Weddell Sea .
