Cape Whitson is the southern end of the peninsula between Methuen Cove and Aitken Cove on the south coast of Laurie Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands .
It was mapped during the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902-1904) under the direction of the Scottish polar explorer William Speirs Bruce . Bruce named the cape after Thomas B. Whitson (1869-1948), treasurer of the expedition and later Lord Provost of Edinburgh (1929-1932).
