history

Rossberg Chapel 1954

The Rossberg chapel was first mentioned in 1241 when Count Hartmann V von Kyburg bequeathed the income from the "Chapel on Rossberg" to his wife Margaretha of Savoy. In 1274 the chapel became the property of the nearby Töss monastery . Until the Reformation it was part of the Illnau church, after which it was used as a warehouse.

In a fire in the neighboring barn on February 27, 1903, the roof of the chapel was damaged and it was rebuilt as a wash house and living quarters. In 1930 the Rossberg estate and the converted chapel were transferred to the Maggi company . In 1978 Maggi donated the chapel to the city of Winterthur, which she renovated and restored based on the example of preserved late Romanesque chapels. In 1988 it received four glass windows by the Winterthur painter Hans Affeltranger , and in 1999 the interior was supplemented by an iron sculpture and an altar by the iron sculptor Silvio Mattioli . The chapel is occasionally used for weddings.
