St. Anna Chapel (Vals)
The St. Anna chapel stands north above the dam of the Zervreila lake near Vals in the Swiss canton of Graubünden .
location
The chapel belongs to the small settlement of Frunt , which used to be inhabited all year round. The name Frunt is derived from the Romanesque word frunt for forehead and refers to the location of the settlement in front on the edge of the terrace. The seven buildings stand 130 meters above the reservoir on a rock terrace at an altitude of 1990 meters above sea level. The St. Anna chapel stands directly on the edge of the rock.
construction
The chapel was built in 1754. It is 3.6 meters long, 1.9 meters wide and covered with stone slabs. In the arched building there is a simple stucco altar with a picture of the holy clan . A commemorative cross for a Mathias Berne (1864–1890) hangs next to the entrance.
In the open bell yoke on the western gable hangs a bell that was cast in 1761 by Anton Brandenberger from Zug . It bears the inscription «AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA DOMINUS TECUM 1761. FROM THE FIRE FLOSS I FIG FROM ZUG GOS ME»
On July 30, 2016, lightning struck the chapel and destroyed the altarpiece and the interior.
