Kapelludden
Kapelludden is a headland on the east coast of the Swedish Baltic island of Öland . The area is designated as a Natura 2000 area .
It can be reached via a four-kilometer spur road from Bredsättra via Kläppinge and Sjövik .
At the tip of the headland is a small fishing port. Kapelludden is known for the evidence of history located here. In the Middle Ages , the village of Sikavarp was located here , which gained importance as a trading center. The ruins of the St. Birgitta chapel and a three-meter high stone cross from the 13th century have been preserved from the time of this village . At the tip of the headland there are remains of a hill, which probably served to defend Sikavarp.
A little to the north of the remains of the village is the Kapelluddens fyr lighthouse from 1872 .
To the east of the stone cross there are heaped walls, which are interpreted as the remains of a lime kiln .
On January 14, 2007, the stone cross was hit and damaged by the rubble of a neighboring hut during hurricane Per . The cross broke in three parts. After a restoration, it was put up again in October 2007.
