Captain Tenkes (Hungarian A Tenkes kapitánya ) is a Hungarian television series from 1963 based on the adventure novel of the same name by Ferenc Örsi (1927-1994). Her 13 episodes (approx. 25 min) were shown for the first time on GDR television in 1965 .
By cutting together a 184-minute film version was created, which was shown for the first time in 1966 as a two-part cinema film in the GDR under the title Der Kapitän vom Tenkesberg . In an adaptation by Lutz Hillmann, "The Captain from Tenkesberg" was premiered as a play on June 28, 2007 in Bautzen .

The series takes place at the beginning of the Hungarian struggle for freedom of Franz II. Rákóczi at the beginning of the 18th century near Siklós in southern Hungary . As the Hungarian Robin Hood , Máté Eke (the "captain") fights against the Habsburg rule with the support of the peasants . His opponent is the commandant of Siklós Castle, Baron Eckbert von Eberstein. With Austrian soldiers he is supposed to put down the Kuruzen movement in the name of the emperor . After numerous adventures, the Hungarians succeed in driving the Habsburgs out of Siklós.

synchronization
For an incomprehensible reason, the series and the movie were dubbed differently, even though their premiere was only a year apart. In the earlier dubbed version of the series, which is also on the DVD, you could hear Winfried Wagner as Captain Tenkes, Walter Niklaus as Baron Eberstein, Alfred Bohl as Siklosi, Horst Kempe as Jakob Buga, Astrid Bless as Veronika and (the only ones who also kept their roles in the movie) Hans-Joachim Hegewald as Bruckenbacker and Käte Koch as Baron Amalie. Wolfgang Thal was the dubbing director in the DEFA studio in Weimar.
