history
Kapowsin was founded in 1901 when the Kapowsin Lumber Company set up a sawmill there. The logging town at the north end of Kapowsin Lake had its heyday in the early 20th century with a high school , shops and stores and about 10,000 residents. When the timber industry fell into disrepair, many residents emigrated and there was only one small center with a shop, tavern, post office, fire station and grange hall . The high school was abandoned in 1949 after it was devastated by an earthquake.
