Kaptagat is a Kenyan village about 25 km east of Eldoret . It is located in the former Rift Valley Province , along the B54. Nearby there is also the Kenyan lake system , which is a UNESCO - World Heritage is. The village of Chepkorio is located directly in the southeast . The place belongs to Uasin Gishu County , although geographically the place is in both Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo-Marakwet . Its local authority is the Wareng County Council and the constituency is the Ainabkoi constituency. One of the closest neighboring cities isKimwarer , which is 10 km away.
Historically, Kaptagat was the home of the colonial landowners and has retained its colonial character to this day. Elagerini Camp, Kaptagat Farmstay and Kaptagat Preparatory School still bear the historical traces of the colonial era . The Kaptagat Forest is strategically and centrally located in the Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet districts at the birthplace of world-class long-distance runners like the famous Eliud Kipchoge and Geoffrey Kamwowor .
Infrastructure
Kaptagat has a small hospital. Kaptagat also has a train station and is connected to the rail network. The train route runs from Nakuru to Eldoret .
Athletics training camps
In Kaptagat is the Great Rift Valley Sports Camp, a training camp for many Kenyan runners. These include Elijah Lagat , Eliud Kipchoge , Moses Tanui and Brimin Kipruto . Kaptagat is also home to the Chepkero Athletics Club, a club that looks after athlete students. The Global Sports Communication training camp is also located in Kaptagat.
