Capuchin monastery in Ochsenfurt
The Capuchin monastery in Ochsenfurt was a Capuchin monastery in Ochsenfurt .
history
From 1644 the Fathers Hieronymus and Casimir von Haslang established a monastery. In 1646 the city formally asked the Capuchin General Father Innocentius in Munich to found a monastery. In 1664, Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn allowed construction of the monastery to begin. On October 16, 1667, the Capuchin Church was opened in honor of St. Burkard and St. Consecrated to Anthony. 18 religious priests and brothers worked as preachers in the pastoral care of Ochsenfurt and the surrounding area. In the secularization of 1803 the monastery was not abolished. Against the declared resistance of the population, however, the Bavarian King Ludwig I ordered the dissolution with decrees of 1826 and 1828. The monastery properties were acquired in 1829 by the city of Ochsenfurt, which housed the hospital's benefactors there from 1835 .
In 1973 the monastery was demolished and the Haus Franziskus retirement home was built on the site. The cloister and church are still preserved from the monastery.
