The Karakax district ( Chinese 墨玉县 , Pinyin Mòyù Xiàn ; Uighur قاراقاش ناھىيىسى, Ⱪaraⱪax Naⱨiyisi ) is a district of the Hotan administrative district in the south of the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in the northwest of the People's Republic of China . It has an area of 25,789 km² and has 440,000 inhabitants.
The site of the Mazhatage Defense System (Mazhatage shubao zhi 麻 扎塔格 戍 堡 址) has been on the List of Monuments of the People's Republic of China (6-219) since 2006 .
