Karel Rudolph Gallas

Karel Rudolph Gallas (born April 17, 1868 in Amsterdam ; † May 5, 1956 there ) was a Dutch Romance philologist and lexicographer.

life and work

Gallas studied at the University of Amsterdam and became a high school teacher. He taught at the same university from 1914, from 1918 as a private lecturer with Gustave Cohen , from 1920 to 1930 as "Lector", from 1930 to 1936 as associate professor and from 1936 to his retirement in 1937 as full professor of French.

From 1916 Gallas was the editorial secretary of the journal Neophilologus . He was an honorary doctor of Tufts University (1934) in Medford (Mass.).
