Karin Kent (* 11. November 1943 in Amsterdam ; actually Janneke Kanteman ) is a former Dutch pop - and pop singer .
Life
After initially being a member of the band Flying Tigers as a singer , Kent recorded her debut single as a solo artist in 1964, accompanied by Johnny & The Cellar Rockers . At first their records were unsuccessful. Two years later she performed with the song Dans Je De Hele Night Met Mij? - the adaptation of a track by Burt Bacharach and Hal David - successfully performed at the Knokke Song Festival . After being released as a single, it reached number 1 in the Nederlandse Top 40 on August 13, 1966 , making it the first front runner sung in Dutch a year and a half after the charts were first introduced.
Kent then tried to establish himself with an English-language repertoire. However, these recordings were not accepted by record buyers. It wasn't until Carnival 1967 that she landed a second hit with the mood song Jelle Sal Wel Sien , a cover version of Yellow Submarine by the Beatles with strong allusions in the text to the then Finance Minister Jelle Zijlstra . After that, success quickly waned. After a brief interlude as a singer for Euson & Stax, she retired from the music business in 1970. A comeback with the single Love Me in 1975 failed.
Almost 30 years after their number one hit, the Nijmegen cover band De Sjonnies hit the stage in 1995 with a new recording of Dans Je De Hele Nacht Met Mij? also the top ten.
