Karin Schmidt born Neumann (born November 17, 1939 in Essen ; † November 30, 1997 ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

Schmidt attended elementary and commercial school and graduated in 1956. She then worked as an office clerk in various companies until she worked as a secretary in the management office of the German Evangelical Church Congress in Fulda from 1962 to 1967 . She then found a job in a law firm, which she held until 1983. She was a member of the CDU. From 1977 to 1985 and again from 1989 she was a city councilor in Schwalmstadt. Since 1981 she was a member of the district council. From October 4, 1983 until her death in 1997, she was a member of the State Parliament of Hesse. From 1983 to 1997 she was a member of the Agriculture and Forestry Committee. From 1983 to 1985 in the Petitions Committee and from 1987 to 1991 in the Committee on Equal Rights and Women's Issues and in the Social Policy Committee. From 1987 to 1991 she was a member of the Committee on Equality and Women's Issues and from 1991 to 1995 of the Committee on Youth, Family and Health. In addition, from 1996 until her death, Schmidt was chairman of the “Family-friendly Hesse” study commission. Since 1995 she was a member of the Presidium of the State Parliament.
