Karin Stjernholm Ræder
Karin Gertrud Stjernholm Ræder (born September 6, 1915 in Stockholm , † January 2, 2010 in Gothenburg ) was a Swedish writer .
Life
Stjernholm Ræder was born in Stockholm in 1915, but moved to Gothenburg at the age of ten. She grew up in a merchant family and had no role models in the family when it came to artistic activities. For a few years she studied at Lund University, among others. However, Stjernholm Ræder never received a formal art school, but was trained as a caricaturist self-taught. After graduating, she spent a few years in the sanatorium after a health check revealed that she had tuberculosis.
Stjernholm Ræder wrote stories while he was still at the girls' school. In 1947, at the age of 22, she published her first book, the short story collection Andra . When her children grew up, she didn't have time to write. For 30 years she published four books as a children's author. Among them I am Lotte-Liese ( Rut-Emma själv ), the first of five books with the protagonist Rut-Emma (German: Lotte-Liese). The last Rut-Emma book, Rut-Emma, Nästan nio , was published in 1989. Stjernholmräder began her career as an illustrator of other children's books in 1976 with pictures for the book Bro, bro, breja by Lennart Hellsing .
The books about Ruth-Emma and her family are based on the author's childhood in the 1920s. The first book describes the small town in Denmark where she spent the summers. The books show Rut-Emma's upbringing until she was nine years old. The text becomes more extensive from book to book and the series changes from picture book to children's novel.
Three books about Manfred published in the 1980s tell the story of the childhood of Stjernholm Ræder's mother in Gothenburg. Manfred suffers from a bad environment, but survives. In the last book he is an employee in a manufacturing company.
Stjernholm Ræder's authorship encompasses realistic stories as well as nonsense, absurdity and idyll. Her illustrations were then given to the Gothenburg Art Museum. In 1989 Stjernholm Ræder was a member of the Association of Friends of Children's Books. Stjernholm Ræder died in Gothenburg in 2010 and was buried in the Kviberg cemetery.
